Catalans queue outside TSJC in 9N self-incrimination campaign
Oriol Junqueras joins them in support of president Mas, who faces criminal charges
Last Tuesday at noon about 500 people gathered outside the Catalan High Court (TSJC) to formally accuse themselves of having taken part in the vote of November 9. They were joined in the action --organised by the Catalan National Assembly (ANC)-- by politicians such as ERC’s Oriol Junqueras, who showed their solidarity with president Artur Mas, Vice President Joana Ortega and Education Minister Irene Rigau, all of whom were indicted on Monday for their role in the 9N vote. The line of people wishing to self-incriminate went more than halfway round the block that houses the High Court. Among those present were CDC’s Josep Rull and Jordi Turull.
ANC’s Vice President Jaume Marfany stated that “people must remain calm; the whole process is democratic and peaceful”, but “the fact that they are attacking our President means that they’re also attacking our institutions and us”.
Andreu Porta, the coordinator of ANC’s disobedience campaign, complained that the 9N vote “should not be a criminal offence in a 21st century democracy” and that “no government has the right to reject the people’s will as expressed in the polls”.
