Catalonia’s Comissió de la Dignitat (1) (“Commission for Dignity”) has asked General Boyero Delgado --the commanding officer of the Spanish military forces stationed in Catalonia-- to pay homage to Catalan president Lluís Companys next October 15, on the 75th anniversary of Companys’ death by firing squad.
The Commission’s spokesperson, lawyer and historian Josep Cruanyes, stated that the Spanish armed forces should “pay Lluís Companys homage, unequivocally, as amends for the death of the Catalan president, who was sentenced to die by a Spanish court-martial in Barcelona 75 years ago”.
The Commission also “urged” the Spanish authorities to come out and condemn the court-martial, “the president’s assassination and the rest of the trials where thousands of people were sentenced to die, and that they pay homage to Companys on the anniversary of his death”. And a further demand: that the archives confiscated by the Nazi police in Paris and currently being held in Spain’s Military Archive in Ávila be returned to the Catalan government.
