BarcelonaOn Monday the BOE (Spain’s official Gazette) published a contract for the maintenance of the offices and gardens of the Spanish Embassy in Paris and of the Chancellery of the Permanent Delegation of Spain to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) for a total sum of €775,000.

On Thursday the BOE announced another tender for a base amount of €310,138.36 (although it is predicted that the actual cost could rise to €516,897). This time, however, it is for the cleaning of the two official seats in France.

In other words, the Spanish government intends to spend almost €1.3 million on the upkeep —indoors and outdoors— of the two bodies, one of which is now led by former Spanish Education Minister José Ignacio Wert.

Unlike the contract for maintenance of gardens and premises, which has already been awarded to Comsa Service Facility Management, last Thursday's announcement is a contract tender. The companies that wish to bid for this contract must meet a number of specific requirements. In particular, the criteria are "an overtime allowance at no cost", the "most affordable" contract, and the number of weekly cleaning hours being offered, among others.

Interested companies may submit their bid no later than September 28.

Mariano Rajoy, Spain’s current caretaker president, appointed Wert Spanish ambassador to the OECD in June last year, and replaced him as Minister of Education with Íñigo Méndez de Vigo, former Secretary of State for European Affairs.
