BarcelonaDespite the fact that the bullfighting ban in Catalonia came into effect years ago, the Spanish Constitutional Court (TC) could now overturn it. According to Catalan daily La Vanguardia, an appeal against the prohibition will be debated on Wednesday, and there is a draft ruling on the table claiming that the Catalan Parliament exceeded its authority.

According to the draft, banning bullfighting falls under the responsibilities of the Spanish government and Madrid’s Congress, not the Generalitat.

In addition, the document states that bullfighting has "a special cultural dimension in Spain", and adds that "it is not merely a show". It is precisely these arguments —rather than those over who has the authority-- that could cause friction among members of the court. What will be least important in today's discussions of the PP's appeal is the actual economic value of the spectacle.
