BarcelonaFour hundred volunteers from the Catalan National Assembly, ANC (1) at 150 underground, train, and bus stops distributed 500,000 copies of a publication that, combining Spanish and Catalan under the headline "Change is in your hands", seeks to share "the opportunity for social change that independence will bring". In this way, the ANC hopes to reach communities that have been difficult to penetrate up to now, with the goal of convincing the maximum possible number of undecided voters before the September 27 elections.

To that effect, volunteers concentrated their efforts on the metropolitan areas of Barcelona and Tarragona. The eight-page publication speaks of democratic regeneration, the fight against corruption, freedom, and healthcare, in addition to focusing on pensions and the vetoes that the State has filed against initiatives such as the fight against energy poverty or the tax on bank deposits. The editorial --written in Spanish-- is titled 'Your Power,' and appeals to the "power to change" the whole country without waiting for correlations of forces and "impossible majorities" in Madrid’s parliament.

It identifies the independence of Catalonia with "the opportunity to build a new, fairer country, more democratic and prosperous, open to all, no matter what they think, where they come from, or what language they speak. A country committed to the welfare of all and not the profits of a few." "This opportunity is called independence, the only possible way that is both regenerative and radically democratic," concludes the text.

Respected voices

The publication includes the testimony of various personalities from both Catalonia and Spain in the section "People like you", who, regardless of their personal position, have expressed their respect towards the process for independence. Among them are: Vicente del Bosque, trainer for the Spanish national football team, actor Dani Rovira, nun Sor Lucía Caram, Father Manel, actor Sergi López, writer Naomi Klein, trade unionist Josep Maria Àlvarez, singer Miguel Bosé, former MEP Raül Romeva, and activist Arcadi Oliveres.
