BarcelonaAccording to eldiario.es the Interior Ministry decorated police commissioner José Villarejo a year ago for his contribution to the investigation of Catalan politicians in a low-key ceremony at the headquarters of the Directorate General of the Police. Villarejo is the commissioner of police who now is being investigated by Interior for the case of the penthouse of the president of the Madrid region, Ignacio González, in Estepona.

The commissioner accused González of having asked him for help to cover up the case of the penthouse --of dubious provenance--, while Villarejo is accusing González of having tried to bribe him not to investigate the case. The wealth accumulated by Villarejo with his private businesses has forced Interior to open an inquiry.
