Risk increases as 3,383 new cases confirmed in Catalonia

Health officials announce 90 new hospital admissions and 17 deaths

BarcelonaThe risk of a major outbreak in Catalonia has risen again. Effective Potential Growth (EPG), used to measure this risk, rose to 400 on Sunday and has reached 438,48 today, a significant increase. There was not such a high risk in Catalonia since the 20 March, when EPG reached 454.19 (the highest so far) after which it has gradually decreased.

This is according to figures released by the Department of Health, which today recorded 3,383 new confirmed coronavirus cases, taking the total number of cases since the start of the pandemic to 176,307.

The transmission rate, the R number, remains at 1.30, after registering a slight fall yesterday.

There have also been 17 new deaths in Catalonia, taking the total to 13,619. In addition, the number of hospitalizations continues to rise: there have been 90 new admissions, with the total standing at 1,308 people, 214 of whom are in intensive care, one more than yesterday.
