"Sensitivity towards Catalonia"

Catalonia is not a special-needs student. It is the most European nation within Spain, and represents 25% of its exports. Here, the only historical anomaly is Spain itself, which in 38 years of democracy has not been able, nor wanted, to remedy its secular lack of democratic culture, the rejection of progress brought by the Counter-Reformation, and the absence of an Industrial Revolution.

Spain still has not shaken off its shoulders the criminal dandruff of Franco-ism, with its linguistic persecution, which it now continues through other means: anything that is not Castilian is not truly Spanish -- furthermore, it's a nuisance. The State monitors Catalonia like a rebel province. None of this will be changed by the government we now have in Madrid, aided by the ineffable TC. They should have the sensitivity to stop talking of sensitivity and begin negotiating, like anywhere else in the world that they say they belong to.
