I like to sunbathe, go to the beach and eat typical Catalan dishes that I can’t find in Seoul

At the end of June I travelled from Seoul, where I’ve been living for the last 10 years, to Barcelona in order to attend the premiere of one of my compositions, a cycle of works for soprano, tenor and piano. I spent the first few days of July getting used to the sun and heat of Catalonia. I’ve taken advantage of my time here to visit the beach at Coma-ruga, where I set up house whenever I’m in Catalonia, especially during the summer holidays. I’ve been visiting family and friends and I’ve started work on a new symphonic work. In August I plan to spend some time in Barcelona, on holiday but also doing some creative work, since I want to press ahead with the piece I’m working on now, which is based on Catalan folklore and was commissioned by the Bucheon Philharmonic Orchestra of South Korea. I’ll be spending the 6th and the 7th of August with two international musicians: the pianist Jinha Park and the cellist David James Kim, who will play some of my pieces in Barcelona. I’m planning to introduce them to Catalan culture and to our magnificent cuisine. Towards the end of August I’ll have to begin preparing my music classes for the course that begins in September in Seoul where I teach. I like to take advantage of the summer to see family and friends who are so far away from me when I’m in Korea. I also try to find time to relax after a year full of classes and professional activities. I like to sunbathe, go to the beach and especially eat dishes that I can’t find in Seoul. I also like to cook using ingredients that I can’t find there like Catalan seafood and fish, especially in paellas, which is my star dish.
