The summer months are for spending time with people who I can’t share much time with during the year. Beyond that, the only difference is that I travel with my parents, usually to Italy. Everyone loves it there and it’s the ideal destination because it’s close enough not be a problem for people of a certain age. We’ll be there for about ten or twelve days. I’ll also carry on coming and going from the Canary Islands, which I love. When I retire I’m going to spend many months of the year in the islands; time passes much more slowly there than in the rest of the world, the weather is good and it’s a real pleasure to be there. I go to the beach, go cycling and organize football matches with friends. With me, it all comes down to sport, it’s my hobby and doing exercise also allows me to devote time and effort to another of my hobbies: trying the cuisine of the places I visit. In the Canaries I’m a big fan of the papas, which are different from the potatoes in the rest of the world. If you exercise, you can eat very well and without worrying too much about your health. During the summer I carry on reading plenty of books; in fact, I usually have two or three of them on the go. It’s a habit I picked up when I retired from professional football and began to write for Mundo Deportivo. Reading helps me learn more vocabulary and writing has become one of the great pleasures of my day to day life.
