The summer is different for performance artists because we don’t have a regular working schedule
I began my summer tied up with work, preparing a casting session for a film and rehearsing performances. This summer I’m on tour around Catalonia with a show called Recurso de Amparo, which is a monologue about everyday life. Actors aren’t like office workers or salespeople, who have a regular working schedule and know on what day their holidays begin. For us performance artists, things are different. The summer is when we have the most work because we have more performances. So we take our holidays whenever we can: if you have a few days or a week free you take advantage of that time to rest or to get away somewhere. Acting is a profession that never ends so it’s after the summer when I can think about taking a holiday and going away on a trip. I’ll see how it goes, but there’s nowhere that I particularly feel like going to, it’ll depend on the moment and the situation. When I was younger I used to love going to the beach but now that I’m older I prefer the mountains. In any case, I take advantage of any free time I have in the summer to rest, to do nothing or to do normal, everyday things like doing the shopping and going for dinner with friends: basically to have normal social relations. In terms of books, I read a lot, but I tend to begin books and then leave them unfinished due to lack of time. It’s a habit that I have to take philosophically and overcome little by little.
